"Kaotically" Good Pizza

By Karolyn Castaldo on March 7, 2012

Near the University of Denver, there is an awesome place with shops and restaurants galore, called Pearl Street. While many will brag to you about Stella’s being the best place to do homework and study with a cup of coffee, Pajama Bakery having the best ice cream, the Farmer’s Market having the freshest delicacies to try and The Crushery being the best place to get a panini around, nothing can beat Kaos Pizzeria, which I consider to be the best place to go out for pizza with your friends.

I was introduced to Kaos last year during Spring Quarter. It is a small house with a garden outside. Small tables are scattered around the yard and inside, and an adorable cat purrs at your feet to greet you. Christmas lights are spread about the courtyard area, giving it a warm glow around the wrought-iron tables. The pizzas are cooked in a garage converted into a kitchen, with a 5-ton wood burning pizza oven. What’s better is that they grow some of their own ingredients right in their backyard and buy the rest from Colorado farms so everything is Italian to the core and Colorado fresh.

Though I’ve never tried anything but their delicious pizza (the Margherita is my favorite!) they also offer salads, pasta dishes, paninis, and of course, desserts. Their drink selection is extensive as well. These pizzas are thin and delectable, so if you have a big enough group, order a few different kinds and split them amongst yourselves. My friends and I usually try at least one new pizza with interesting toppings and then order another one of our favorites as a classic.

If you’re worried that you’ll be bored before your food comes, Kaos provides trivia cards, which can provide lots of laughs and good old competition among you and your friends. Chalk is also given to the little ones to color on the sidewalk. Whether you’re inside, outside, or on the screened in porch area, Kaos has an amazing homey feel. The closeness of the tables and the rooms doesn’t make it feel crowded at all, so feel free to laugh loudly over your trivia game and enjoy some pizza with your friends.

Though their menu is a little pricey, it is definitely worth the money. If you’re feeling a little too cheap to go, save up for a couple of weekends when you would usually order a pizza from Domino’s and splurge on Kaos. Plus, it’s not too expensive if you split it! And don’t worry if you’re not feeling like a night out. Kaos Pizzeria delivers!

So, next time you and your friends want a delicious meal at a place with a great atmosphere, go to Kaos.
